Romanian e-communication market earns over 1.6 bln euros in half-year revenues
The revenues recorded in the electronic communications market hit more than 1.6 billion euros (7.48 billion lei) in the first half of this year, marking a 3.5 percent rise from last Jan.-June, reveals the Report on Integrated Statistic Data regarding the Romanian electronic communications market made public by the National Authority for Communications Management and Regulation.
According to the Authority, except for the fixed telephony services and the rented lines services, that saw their revenues shrink some 11 percent from the six months of 2011 down to 745 million lei and 133 million lei respectively, the other revenues from e-communications services recorded rises as follows: Internet access services (+16.2 pct up to 1.1 billion lei), mobile telephony services (+0.1 pct to 2.7 bln lei), re-broadcasting of landline audiovisual media programmes to the end-users (+2.6 pct to 796 mln lei).
The revenues from connecting to mobile and fixed points posted annual rises of 1.4 percent to 999 million lei and 14.6 percent to 341 million lei respectively.
The regulatory body's report quotes figures reported by the landline telephony providers as showing that the number of the access lines in the first six months of this year had a relatively constant development from end-2011, namely it rose 0.3 percent from end-June 2011 up to 4.68 million. There were by 0.3 percent more subscribers up to 4.05 million, the report reveals.
A number of 3.84 million of the 4.68 million landline telephony lines are set up for individuals, accounting for 82 percent of the total, while 0.84 million access lines are set up for the companies.
Official data shows the penetration rate of landline telephony in 100 locals (calculated as ratio of the total access lines to the number of the Romanian locals) kept steady at 24.6 percent, while the penetration rate of landline telephony in 100 households (calculated as ratio of the access lines supplied the individuals to the number of the Romanian households) was 54.2 percent
