Cars: Car market declines over 22 percent in first 11 months in 2012
The sales of new motor vehicles on the Romanian market stood at 80,439 units in the first 11 months of 2012, down by 22.2 percent from the same period in 2011 (103,371 units), according to the data released by the Association of Car Makers and Importers /APIA/.
The decline in car sales stood at 24.9 percent, from 89,032 units sold last year to 66,834 units after the first 11 months of this year.
More moderate declines were reported in the sales of light commercial vehicles (under 3.5 tonnes), by 4.3 percent, from 9,990 units to 9,561 units, lorries - down by 6 percent, minibuses - 11 percent and buses - 15.9 percent.
The production of motor vehicles decreased by 3.2 percent to 308,089 units, exports went up by 7.7 percent to 309,104 units, whilst the import of motor vehicles decreased by 18.4 percent to 60,289 units.
The classification of car sales in the first 11 months of 2012 is topped by Dacia, with 18,346 units sold (27.5 percent of total), followed by Volkswagen (7,550 units / 11.3 percent), Skoda (5,932 units / 8.4 percent), Ford (4431 units / 6.6 percent), Renault (4,428 units / 6.6 percent) and Hyundai (3,059 units / 4.6 percent). The sales of domestically-made cars fell by 32.6 percent and the sales of imported cars shrank by 21.6 percent.
The classification of best-selling car models is the same as in the past months. Dacia Logan is at the top, with November sales of 821 units and a total of 8,975 units sold in 2012. It is followed at a distance by Dacia Duster, with 465 units sold in November (5,023 units sold in 2012), and Skoda Octavia, with 265 units sold in November and a total of 3,168 units sold in 2012.
