Tourism: Romania will open tourist promotion offices in Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Brussels

Romania will open this year three tourist promotion offices in Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Brussels, but will give up activity in Paris, said Maria Grapini, delegate minister for small companies, business environment and tourism.“We will open Romania’s tourist promotion office in Japan. I would like to have the office already opened in September when the tourist fair is held in Japan,” the minister said.

At the same time a promotion office will open in Israel, the fifth country sending foreign tourists to Romania in 2013.“Although initially Dubai was suggested, we want to make a change. On one hand in Israel we do not need visas, while in Dubai we do. On the other hand we have a large Romanian community there and a wide interest,” Grapini added.

The Paris office will close in the first part of the year and another office will open in Brussels to cover France, Belgium and the Netherlands.“The Paris office did not function too well and was inefficient. I saw several travel offices which I did not like such as those in Spain and France. I did not like the activity there. I asked for the embassies’ point of view. We got only negative reference from Madrid,” the minister said.

Romania has 9 tourist promotion offices abroad in New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Rome, Madrid, Warsaw and Vienna.
