Tourism: Over 50% of the Romanians book their holiday online; 42% say that they have one yearly holiday

 

Over 50% of the Romanians book their holiday online, and approximately 72% say that they trust the sites for online booking, according to a study made by a platform for hotel booking. The majority of the Romanians get informed and book their summer holidays online and 44% of them access between 2 and 5 such sites to read the reviews of the places where they want to spend their holiday, according to a survey made by the platform HotelGuru.ro.

Most Romanian tourists prefer to travel during the summer and the top of preferred destinations are in Romania, Greece or Turkey. Contrary to expectations, the holidays to Bulgaria dropped in popularity only 3% of the interviewees wanting to go on summer holiday on the Bulgarian seaside.

Even so, 42% of those who participated to the survey say that they go on holiday only one time a year, while 13% of the Romanians state they go on holiday every time they get a special offer. The time offered to planning a journey is between 1 month and 3 months for 29% of the interviewees, while 21% of them state they plan their holiday half a year before.

For holidays abroad, going by air is the preferred means of transport by 46%of the Romanians, while 38% say they prefer to travel by car. The coach is not so popular among the Romanians, only 15% of the interviewed ones prefer this means of transport on holiday.

Approximately 60% of the Romanians say that the allocated budget for one day of holiday in Romania is between 100 and 200 lei per person, while 43% think that a double budget,covered between 200 and 400 lei per person, is sufficient for a holiday abroad. In exchange, the duration of a holiday in Romania is not different from that of a holiday abroad: between 3 and 6 nights.

For half of the Romanians who answered the survey, both confort and interaction with people and the culture of the place are as important in choosing a holiday destination. Moreover, the architecture of the places they visit is a very important criterion for over 68% of the Romanians in the choice of touristic destinations.

The study was made on a sample of 1,930 interviewees in Romania, who participated online to fill in the questionnaire between 29 July – 12 August 2015.
