Telecom.IT : 1.32 percent of Romanian households have broadband fiber optic Internet connections
Romania ranks 23rd in Europe, with a total number of 99,000 users, accounting for 1.32 percent of the total number of households in this country, who have a broadband fiber optic Internet connection, according to a chart compiled by Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Council Europe .
Romania entered the FTTH chart on the 15th position in 2010 with an Internet penetration rate of 1.1 percent. In 2013, the total number of users increased by 10 percent, broadband fiber optic having a penetration rate of 4 percent, below European standards.
'We must do more to develop FTTH technology and I can't help but notice that the strategy behind developmental policies underestimates the risks of delaying fiber optic technology adoption as a means to connect residential spaces. In the next 30 years, it is expected that 70 percent of the economy be run by companies and products that we, at the moment, know nothing about.' said President of the FTTH Council Europe Karin Ahl.
