Romania imported 42,600 tons of poultry in the first four months of 2017
Romania imported 42,600 tons of poultry in the first four months of this year, up 6 pct as compared to the similar period in 2016, while exports were 2.4 times lower in the same period, of only 17,600 tons respectively, according to the trade balance in agrifood products.
The value of poultry imports recorded after the first four months of 2017 exceeded 48.2 million euro, while in the same period in 2016 it amounted to 47.5 million euro for a quantity of 40.200 tons of poultry imported from intra and extra-community markets.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), revenues from poultry exports totaled 32.5 million euro in the first four months of this year, 18 pct down as compared to the 39.7 million euro, y-o-y, when 19,700 tons were exported.
Data from the Poultry Breeders Union (UCPR) shows that a Romanian national consumes almost 21 kilograms of poultry per year.
The poultry industry market in Romania was estimated at about 1.1 billion euro in 2016, and the domestic production of live poultry in the industrial system amounted to about 435,000 tons.
Romania has around 500 poultry farms with sanitary-veterinary authorisation, belonging to a number of 250 UCPR member companies.
