Agriculture: 100 new traditional products with European recognition potential identified
Specialists from County Agriculture departments have identified 300 products in Romania which could be included in national and European quality systems.Of them, 100 are potential products with names that can access European quality systems, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) announced on Friday, in a press release.
According to MADR 20 products identified at events held over March-August, are in the attention of the ministry for the completion of documents, according to European regulation 1151/2012 and national laws: Vaideeni Cheese (Valcea county), Sibiu Cheese, Bran cheese, Rhubarb jam, Gulianca cheese, Delta fish egg salad, Virsli of Hunedoara, Pecica bread, Nadlac salami, Copalau garlic, Pericei onion, Transylvania ham, Toboliu cabbage, Nemtean beer, Smoked trout from Putna Valley, Muscel pretzels, Smoked plums from Samburesti, Oltenesti sausages, Voinesti apples, etc.
MADR points out that the target of the “Programme encouraging traditional products”from the Agricultural Policies and Rural Development Chapter of 2017-2020 ruling programme is recording 14 products for Romania in European quality standards until 2020.
At present, Romania has four products registered as geographic indexes: Topoloveni jam, Sibiu Salami, Smoked Novac from Barsei Land, Ibanesti Cheese.
Three other products are being analysed in Brussels - Plescoi sausages, Smoked Danube Mackerel and Saveni cheese. Nine alcohol beverages are also checked: Tarnave brandy, Segarcea brandy, Murfatlar brandy, Vaslui brandy, Vrancea brandy, Horinca of Camarzana, Arges plum brandy and Zetea plum brandy from Mediesu Aurit.
