Neckermann expands promoting holidays in Romania in the Austrian market

Neckermann will expand this year promoting holidays in Romania in the Austrian market and will introduce Dracula circuits in the offer, next to sojourns on the littoral, said Gheorghe Marginean, the director of Karpaten Tourism agency, the Neckermann representative in Romania. He said Neckermann was selling three types of holidays in Romania to Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Austria: sojourn on the littoral. City breaks and cultural circuits. Of them the littoral holds 90% of overall sales.

“On the littoral we compete against the Bulgarians, who have low prices and better services. For instance an all inclusive sojourn at a Romanian four star hotel on the littoral is at least 25-30% more expensive than in Bulgaria, in conditions in which services are much better in the neighbour country. For the same reason there are more foreign tourists in Bulgaria at the seaside than in Romania. Neckermann will not give up selling Romanian littoral offers, but wants to diversify the offer for Romania and will introduce Dracula circuits, which include tourist sites in Transylvania and Bucharest”, Marginean added.

7,000 tourists came via Neckermann to Romania in 2013, against 5,600 in 2012. For 2014 company representatives estimate an increase of 10-15%.

On the average, a foreign tourist who comes to Romania via Neckermann pays for a vacation between 800 and 1,600 euro, including airplane transport, and full accommodation in a four star hotel.

Karpaten Tourism handles services in Romania for 200,000 foreign tourists who choose circuits, cruises, sojourn in the mountains or at the seaside and in the Danube Delta.

Neckermann Reisen is a Thomas Cook trade mark and the second largest tour operator in Germany.

Thomas Cook, one of the largest tourism groups in the world, started bringing tourists to Romania in 2012 through the Neckermann brand after having withdrawn from the Romanian market in 2006.

Thomas Cook is the mass tourism pioneer and in 1841 organized a trip by train to England for 500 persons. In 1855 it made the first Europe tour organized for British tourists. In 1900 Thomas Cook was the leader of world tourism.
