Health Minister: Basic health services package in force as of April 1, national program package as of Aug. 1
The basic health services package will come into force on April 1 this year, while the one regarding the national health programs may come in force on August 1; the Ministry of Health intends to have the minimum package applied as of January 1, 2015, Minister Eugen Nicolaescu declared in a debate.
'In the next two months we must prepare all the necessary regulations for the basic package. February and March are critical to having the necessary rules worked out. Together with the National Health Insurance Office we establish the technical rules so as to eliminate desynchronization and misinterpretation ( ... ),' the Health Minister said.
According to him, increasingly more services will be provided in the outpatient system.
'I hope that the approximately 9 months of implementation of the basic package create the expected cost savings. These savings represent additional sources of funding for the Romanian medical system. Increasingly more services will be provided to patients who need outpatient treatment. The package is an attempt to persuade doctors and managers to solve as many as possible cases in outpatient care. Nobody dreams with eyes open that from April 1 this will really happen, but we must make a start,' said the official.
He stressed that he wants to develop specialized outpatient services as much as possible and stressed that the basic package is needed to build the package of additional services.
