More private hospitals, by 20.1pct, in 2014 from 2013
The number of private hospitals in Romania increased last year by 20.1pct from 2013 to 161 units and over 146,700 patients were hospitalized in these hospitals in 2014, with an average hospitalization period of 5.5 days, according to National Institute of Statistics (INS) data.
Newly registered hospitals there are in the counties of Cluj, Alba, Brasov, Bacau, Iasi, Vaslui, Constanta, Tulcea, Prahova, Dolj and also in Bucharest.
"Following the opening of some new units, the reorganization of existing ones, as well as some public units having become private, the private network saw in 2014 a number of 273 specialized medical centers, with over 59 units more than in the previous year (27.6pct)," according to the INS.
At the same time, private healthcare centers recorded last year 519 patients who were admitted there for an average 14.5 days from 12.8 days in 2013.
