Infrastructure : The master plan for transport: Romania needs only 656 km of highway and 2,226 km of express roads

The necessary of highways of Romania is only 656 km, the estimated costs for their achievement until 2030 being 6.282 billion euro, without VAT,according to the Master Plan for Transport in Romania.

According to the document Romania should build 2,226 km of express roads, the estimated cost being 17,519 billion euro, without VAT.

The projects for highways included in the master plan to be built until 2030 are: Sibiu — Bra?ov (103 km), estimated costs 690 million euros, no VAT, Ploie?ti — Comarnic (49 km, 310 million euro, without VAT), Craiova — Pite?ti (115 km, 870 million euro, no VAT), Bra?ov — Bacau (158 de km, 2,068 billion euros, no VAT), Gilau — Bor? (177 km, 1,534 billion euro, no VAT), Comarnic — Bra?ov (54 km, 1,117 billion euro, no VAT),this last project being the one which qualified best for highway from the point of view of indicators.



For express roads, the document includes 16 projects: the modernisation of the ringroads of southern Bucharest, Bacau — Suceava, Suceava — Siret, Buzau — Foc?ani, Bacau — Foc?ani — Braila — Gala?i, Turda — Halmeu, Gae?ti — Ploie?ti — Buzau — Braila, Lugoj — Craiova, Bucure?ti — Alexandria — Craiova, Sibiu — Pite?ti, Suceava — Boto?ani, Pa?cani — Ia?i — Ungheni, Targu Mure? — Pa?cani, Bra?ov — Pite?ti, Bacau — Piatra Neam?, Constan?a — Tulcea — Braila (including the bridge in Braila).



At present, Romania has 644 km of highways and no km of express road. According to the former minister of transport Dan Sova in 2020 we should have finalised 2,440 km of highway, the minister of transport planning for 2014 the feasibility studies for 1,797 km of highway and the organisation of bids for 375,38 km of highway.



The present minister of transport Ioan Rus stated at the beginning of September that between 2014 and 2020 Romania will have another almost 600 km of highway.



The master plan for transport is a strategic document which will be at the basis of investments planning in transports for the period of 2014 – 2030. It is a compulsory document without which structural funds for transport could not be accessed for the period 2014 – 2020and the ministry of transport will use it as a support instrument in the process of planning investments in transport infrastructure.
