Infrastructure : Minister Sova plans to propose Bechtel complete cease of contractual ties
Minister delegate for infrastructure projects Dan Sova plans to propose the complete stop of contractual relations with Bechtel road constructor, with payment of all debts and arrears for 2012, amounting to some 50 million euros.
'I am sorry, but my firm intention is to propose Bechtel Company the complete stop of our contractual relations, with payment of the amassed debts amounting somewhere to 50 million euros, for 2012. Both as a Romanian politician and a citizen, it is painful to do this, but finishing the Suplacu de Bacau - Bors road segment, the single Bechtel still works at, would mean soaring amounts. More exactly, we are to pay more 250 million euros to get it finished,' Minister Sova told Realitatea tv, late on Wednesday.
According to Sova, 1.3 billion euros have been spent so far, and only one 52-km road segment between Turda and Gilau is operational, and 40 percent of the Suplacu de Barcau and Bors (western Romania) is not affordable because there is no road knot, over there.
'Paying 1.3 billion euros for 52 km speed way, given that the road must be 420 km long, in all, the final costs were astronomical. This is the reason why I am going to propose the agreement with Bechtel Company to be ceased, and I plan to ask for assistance from an important law firm, in the case,' Minister Sova stressed.
