Infrastructure : Dan Sova: Many investors are interested in Transylvania area

Minister Delegate for infrastructure projects of national interest and foreign investments, Dan Sova, told Agerpres that many investors are interested in the Transylvania area (central-western Romania).

'There have been a lot of investment projects carried out in Transylvania and, more importantly, what I can tell you with certainty is that there are very many foreign investors interested in Transylvania, because this area of the country is perhaps the most developed in terms of road infrastructure,' said Dan Sova.

He gave several examples of large investments in Transylvania.'There were several large investments made in Transylvania, covering fields from mining to energy, motorways etc. If I think about it now there are two major investment projects under development right now in the region: Tarnita and Nabucco West, both in the energy field; and there is also the Transylvania motorway, the longest segment of the corridor IV from Nadlac to Sibiu, to be followed also by the Comarnic-Brasov segment, to cross the mountains in Ardeal, with the specification that Tarnita and Nabucco West depend on the Ministry of Energy. We also have here the Rosia Montana project, we'll see if it will be developed or not, we will have to take a political decision respects to this project soon. And we also have Cuprumin,' mentioned Sova.

Minister Sova maintains that very much money was spent on the works on Transilvania Motorway (Brasov, central Romania - Bors, western Romania) and that someone must be held responsible.

He told a press conference on Thursday that he would notify the state's bodies, after a previous checkup of the Control Body of the Prime Minister. 'The state institutions will have to give explanations and tell us how they spent 1.4 billion euros, because the money belongs to Romanians and the motorway belongs to Romania. Spending 1.4 billion euros on nothing is something that needs to be explained and I guarantee it will be explained. After the date of April 30, when the contract with Bechtel concludes, we shall be able to take and demand a first assessment of the Control Body of the Prime Minister on this contract and if the assessment does not register positive results - and it is impossible to have positive results at 1.4 billion euro expenses - we shall obviously notify the state institutions to analyse exactly who are those responsible, to what extent and which were the actual deeds that led to such expenses,' Dan Sova underscored.

He also said that the entire Brasov-Bors motorway was initially estimated at 2 billion euros and 1.4 billion euro expenses were reached only for Campia Turzii-Gilau sector.

'Transilvania Motorway has some technical-economic indicators, but they have not been of much use, in the sense that with 2 billion euros we had to build the entire motorway, from Brasov to Bors, and we have only built 52 kilometeres, with 1.4 billion euros. I can tell you and you must know that spending 1.4 billion euros for 52 practicable kilometres and 40 percent finished portions on Suplacu de Barcau - Bors sector will not remain in an anecdotal stage. (...) With 1.4 billion euros, the Turda - Bors sector had to be finished and practicable,' Dan Sova mentioned.

Minister Dan Sova on Thursday visited the ring-road Valcele-Apahida of the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca (central-western Romania). He said that the Government would allot 70 million lei for fitting out the area affected by landslides and that the works would be concluded this year.
