Infrastructure : Craiova airport was inaugurated
The airport in Craiova (southern Romania) was inaugurated on Friday after it was modernized and rehabilitated with funds from the Dolj County Council (CJ), which made it possible for the airport to be opened to international flights too both in the daytime and at night.
Attending the above-mentioned event, Premier Victor Ponta said that the airport in Craiova could be regarded as a foundation stone for what will be the region of Oltenia as all the counties, people and businessmen in the area would benefit by the airport that was inaugurated on Friday.
'I am hailing this event I regard as a foundation stone for what will be the region of Oltenia. A region Romania needs as it needs all the other regions, which will also exist constitutionally concurrently with next year's amendment of the Constitution, a region that needs these basic elements for it to exist: an airport ... a project all Oltenia's counties will benefit by,' said the Prime Minister.
According to chairman of the Dolj County Council Ion Prioteasa, the Dolj CJ invested about 10 million euros in the airport, in building the five-storey air traffic control tower, in modernizing the arrival and departure terminals, in equipping them with internationally standardized security devices, waiting rooms, green areas, administrative and commercial areas.
Manager of the Craiova airport Mircea Dumitru said that the inauguration of the airport took place on the very International Civil Aviation Day, an occasion on which they also opened the SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) Aero Centre in Craiova.
