IDC : Sales of tablet PCs will be lower than estimated

Tablet PCs will be intensely challenged by other mobile devices such as smartphones and portable computers, according to the market research company IDC which reduced the estimate regarding global sales for this category of products for this year. IDC anticipates that tablet PCs sales will get to 227,4 million units, under the initial estimate of 229.3 million.

The research company anticipates the slowing down of the growth of tablet PCs market in North America and Western Europe. `The saturation of the market, the growing acquisitions of smartphones with screeens of at least 5 inch and the possible expansion of the portable computers segment will have an impact on the growth of tablet PCs in all regions, but first in the mature ones’, IDC explained.
