GfK: Durables market in Romania goes down by 2.5 percent in second quarter

The durables market in Romania went on decreasing in the second quarter of this year and dropped 2.5 percent from the similar time span of 2011, according to the GfK Temax Romania study.

'The second quarter of 2012 witnessed various developments, with ups and downs. Considered as a whole, the value of the monitored fields was by 2.5 percent lower than the one in the second quarter of 2011,' reads the above-mentioned study.

The only field that saw a two-digit growth, namely 19.2 percent in the second quarter of 2012, was photography, with sales amounting to a total 12 million euros. The field of electronic products also increased slightly, by about 3 percent, and amounted to 58 million euros, and the telecom one, by only 0.7 percent, up to 43 million euros. On the other hand, the IT market went down by 2 percent from the same time span of last year and amounted to 84 million euros and the printer and multifunctional laser one stayed stable, about 7 million euros in the second quarter of 2012.

According to the GfK Temax Romania study, the highest losses were on the white goods and the brown goods market, the latter one having a two-digit decrease, namely 10 percent, down to 10 million euros.

GfK Temax is an indicator used by GfK Retail and Technology in order to monitor the durables markets. The results are based on the studies made regularly on the retail panel of GfK Retail and Technology. The retail panel includes data collected from more than 370,000 vending outlets the world over. Starting in February 2009, GfK Retail and Technology has calculated the GfK Temax Index at world level in over 30 countries. It is the first indicator including all the durables markets in various countries.
