Dacia sales in Europe rise 7.8 pct in June

The Dacia cars registrations in Europe totalled 24,664 vehicles in June, up 7.8 percent from June 2011 (22,876 units), while the domestic carmaker saw its market share expand 2 percent in June, reveal statistic figures made public by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) on Tuesday.

Dacia registrations in Europe hit 122,871 units Jan. to June, down by 5.8 percent from the six months of last year (130,382 units).

ACEA statistics target the automobile markets in 28 European states - 26 in the European Union (less Malta) and three EFTA states - Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Sales in the 29 states slumped 1.7 percent in June to 1,254,052 units as compared to the same period in 2011 (1,275,734 units).

Topping the European sales in June is German auto group Volkswagen, with 300,858 registered vehicles, followed by French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen with 151,868 registered vehicles, French group Renault - of which Romanian Dacia is part - with 114,964 registered vehicles (down 3.7 percent from 119,440 units registered in last June), General Motors with 109,764 registered units and Ford with 85,465 units.

The EU sluggish economy has taken its toll on the sales of the main automobile manufacturers in Europe.
