Cross-border project to make from the Simian Island (SW) a tourist destination

The Mehedinti County Council (southwestern Romania) has promoted a cross-border project to conduct a feasibility study and prepare the necessary technical documentation to improve the tourist infrastructure on the Simian Island, the head of the institution, Adrian Duicu told Agerpres on Monday.

According to the abovementioned source, the Dimovo town hall from Bulgaria will be a partner in this project, with the funds to be provided by the European Union via the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Romania-Bulgaria.

‘Our aim is to make from the Simian Island an international tourist destination after in 1968-1972 we moved the Ada-Kaleh Citadel there. According to plans, hotels, casinos, swimming pools, sports fields, shops, parking lots and a small port as well are going to be built on the island. Investments will probably exceed 80 million euros', Duicu specified.

The 'Feasibility study and technical project for improving tourist infrastructure on the Simian Island area' will be carried out for sixteen month to cost 522,827 euros in total.
