Average download, upload speeds via landline internet connections in Romania advance 18pct in 2017

Average download and upload speeds in Romania via landline internet connections increased by 18pct in 2017 compared with the previous year, according to statistics released on Tuesday by the National Authority for Communications Administration and Regulation (ANCOM) based on tests conducted on Netograf.ro - the ANCOM application for testing Internet service quality.

According to official data, average download speeds reached 112.1 Mbps last year (186.6 Mbps for wired connections and 61.26 Mbps for wireless connections).

Also, the average upload speed nationwide reached 93.1 Mbps for Internet access via landline connections (146.46 Mbps for wired connections and 56.63 Mbps for wireless connections).

The results of the Netograf tests conducted in 2017 for Internet access via mobile points show that the average download speed nationwide was 20.44 Mbps, while the average upload speed reached 9.08 Mbps.

Topping the rankings of average speeds for internet access via landline connections by providers was Orange (downloading speeds of 300.45 Mbps / uploading speeds of 269.56 Mbps), followed by RCS & RDS (220.14 Mbps / 200.4 Mbps) and NextGen Communications (128.63 Mbps / 148.62 Mbps).

The ranking of average speeds by mobile internet provider is topped by Orange, Vodafone and Telekom Mobile in that order.

The 2017 ANCOM Quality of Service Report on Internet Access Service also provides information on lagging for both landline internet access providers and mobile internet service providers, broken down by counties, variations in lagging, as well as information on the terms for the provision of the internet access service, deadlines for troubleshooting, and the frequency of users' complaints and the deadline for solving them.
