Agriculture: Ten counties concentrate 65% of vineyards in Romania
Ten counties in Romania concentrate 65% of the overall vineyard area of 180,000 ha. At the opposite poll there are six counties which are not on this map and 9 other counties with less than 1,000 ha, less than 1%, Ziarul Financial newspaper (ZF) writes.
“It is normal to find vineyards concentrate in the same area. At global level vineyards grow between parallels 30 and 50 in both hemispheres, where climate conditions allow these plants to grow in good conditions. Moreover, even in these areas vineyards are concentrated in certain areas, according to geographic characteristics,” said Marian Ivanescu, business development manager & branding at WineRo, the producer of Alira wines.
He added that a similar situation is applied in Romania too, where mountains or other forms of relief which are not fit for growing vine represent an important part of the country relief. The most important results are obtained from grapes grown in vineyards which try to find nutrients and water in the ground. “Very fertile soils are not recommended for these cultures. So areas fit for growing vine is significantly restricted,” Ivanescu said.
The producer of Alira wines has a property at Aliman, Constanta county, where investments amount to over 8 million euros, according to the latest ZF data. The money was used to buy the land, plant 80 ha of vine, buy equipment for vineyard maintenance. Constanta is in the top of the most important counties for vineyard areas with 7,800 ham which means 4.5% of national total. Romania has about 180,000 ha cultivates with vine, 28% of which is in the commercial circuit and the difference leaves room to the appearance of producers, who test production in the field every year.
The area of fruitful vineyard may grow in the years to come, according to specialists in the field.
