Agriculture : Romania exported twice more wheat than corn in first 4 months of 2012
Romania exported 1448 million tons of wheat and corn in the first four months of the year, twice more than in the same period of 2011, according to data supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). Of the quantity of cereals placed on the foreign markets (EU and third markets), wheat represented 474,149.295 tons and corn 973,856.856 tons.
According to MADR, 384.26 million euro was obtained from exports of wheat and corn over January-April 2012, over 75% of the total amount – 289.52 million euro, came only from corn.
Compared to the same period of 2011, incomes grew 1.8 times (209.349 million euro) due to good prices for export in the world market. In the mentioned period, 1.23 million euro was obtained from the export of 4,768 tons of barley and 4.188 million euro for 8,744.5 tons of rice.
On the other hand, in the first four months of the year 72,992 tons of wheat of 14.21 million euro and 255,248 tons of corn of 86.97 million euro were imported.
