450,000 ha, Romania's total area on which they get ecological products
Ecological products are currently obtained in Romania on a total area of 450,000 hectares, significantly up from 2007, when it only totalled 130,000 hectares, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Daniel Constantin told a specialist conference on Wednesday.
'The increase was possible both thanks to the financial incentives and to the generous outlet both in Romania and abroad. We must go on helping the ecological agriculture. Romanian bio-products are appreciated in Germany, France, etc,' said Constantin.
The number of operators working in the ecological product market amounted to 15,000 in 2013, up by over 8,000 from the results obtained in 2007.
'There are chances for growth by the end of the year: 20,000 operators. The Ministry of Agriculture must get adapted to this growth. In this respect I am telling you that, if in 2010, the aids per hectare given to bio operators amounted to two million euros, in 2012-13 the sum of money totalled seven million euros,' said the Minister of Agriculture.
Daniel Constantin also said that the future common agricultural policy would be greener than ever, considering the fact that the 2014-20 financial allocation must be meant for the agro-environment measures.
'The future national programme of rural development, besides classic measures, will have three important subprogrammes: for helping milk producers, a programme for the tree growing area and one devoted to the sub-mountainous area, considering the recommendation of the European Commission. For the future form of support to Romania we have requested the Council of Ministers that we should effect payments per hectare after 2014 too. This payment is conditioned by the existence of some environment friendly farming conditions. A farmer can get the entire payment or by 30 percent less only if he observes the environment friendly conditions,' explained the Minister of Agriculture.
The Bio-Romania Association of the Ecological Agriculture Operators on Wednesday organized a conference devoted to the World Environment Day, which is globally celebrated on June 5, under the motto 'Think.Eat.Save!'
