Transgaz and the Japanese corporation Itochu signed the agreement memorandum for collaboration in big projects in the domain of gas
Transgaz and the Itochu corporation of Japan signed an agreement memorandum for collaboration in big projects in the domain of natural gas – the GNL terminal in Alexandroupolis, the Whitestream pipeline, the terminal GNL Krk as well as national projects in the domain of energy, says Transgaz.
The memorandum, valid for two years, Romgaz to joint as well, was signed with the intention of Transgaz to extend its activity in the sector of European energy infrastructure as well as the fact that Itochu has expertise and the capacity to evaluate and develop projects for infrastructure in the protection of the environment in the gas sector of Europe.
As regards the potential opportunities for cooperation to be developed together by the Transgaz, Itochu and Romgaz (after joining MoU) – they intend to have discussioins about international projects such as the GNL terminal in Alexandroupolis, the Whitestream pipeline, the GNL terminal Krk as well as national projects in the domain of energy, co-generation units, chemical and petro-chemical units. At the same time, the collaboration between the operator of the national system of gas transport Transgaz and the Japanese company Itochu will be oriented towards activities for the development of the infrstructre of gas transport at national level with the view of connecting all local communities to the gas network.
The project of the GNL terminal in Alexandroupolis covers an offshore floating unit for the reception, storage and re-gasification of GNL (liquefied natural gas) and a submarine system and a pipeline for the transport of gas on land, through which the natural gas is sent in the natural gas system of Greece and then to the end-users. There is also the capacity to connect and transport to other systems of gas transport which are planned in the same geographic region, such as TAP (Trans Atlantic Pipeline). The Alexandroupolis project will create the fourth gate for gas import to Greece with a capacity of 700,000 cubic metres natural gas per hour or 6,1 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year and a storage capacity of up to 170,000 cubic metres GNL.
The Whitestream pipeline has as objective to deliver natural gas from the Caspian area and Central Asia via Azerbaijdan and Georgia, then to cross the Black Sea towards the south-eastern part of Europe. The pipeline Whitestream is a new infrastructure for the crossing of the Black Sea. It will transport Turkmen gas through the second line of the transCaspian pipeline (TCP) directly towards Romania and other EU member states.
The Krk terminal is on the Krk island in Croatia. The geographical position selected allows Europe to have access to natural gas through CEGH Baumgarten. Even so, the primary markets are those of Central and South-Eastern Europe, as they can be accessed either through CEGH Baumgarten or by the system for the transport of natural gas of Croatia. The Krk island is situated in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea. The GNL transporters will reach the Rijeka golf and will leave from the Istria peninsula and the Cres island. The location for the GNL terminal Krk will be limited by the capacity of the transport system which should be 300,000 Nm3/hour or 2.6 billion cubic metres natural gas per year. The transport operator of Croatia, Plinacro plans supplementary investments for pipelines and compressors which would increase the maximum of the capacity of the system of transport at 800,000 Nm3/hour, after 2020.
