The Romanian government wants to draw more Chinese companies to electricity investments of over 3 billion dollars
Several Chinese companies are courted by the Romanian government to get involved in energy projects of over three billion dollars in production units, the state secretary of the ministry of economy Rodin Traicu, quoted by Mediafax said. According to Traicu, the Romanian party proposed to the China Huandian Engineering to get involved in the construction of an electricity group of 400 MW for the Mintia thermal power station, investment of almost 400 milion dollars.
Another project where the Chinese company could be drawn is the energy group of 250 MW for the RAAN, estimated at approximately 250 million dollars. “We proposed involvement in the hydro-power station Tarnita-Lapustesti and they were interested” Traicu said in a press conference.
The investment in the hydro-power station in Tarnita is estimated at 1.1 billion euro.
China Huadian got in May the bid for the construction of an electricity group at Rovinari thermal power station with a capacity of 500 – 600 MW, investment of 1.1billion dollars.
“We set the date for signing the memorandum, at the end of this year, namely. In April-May 2013 there will take place the finalisation of the design company to install this electricity group” Traicu said.
Traicu added that the ministry of economy proposed to another Chinese company China Coal Group to get involved in the modernisation of some coal mines in Valea Jiului and Drobeta Turnu Severin, with a view to increasing the production of coal for the production of electricity.
“We discussed the modernisation of the underground exploitations in Valea Jiului of the Electricity Complex Hunedoara. The target is to reach the exploitation of four million tons of coal annually, from 1.5 million tons per year at present. The necessary of investment is of 16-30 million dollars, depending on what the feasibility study shows” according to the secretary of state.
The minister of economy aims at associating with Chinese companies and with a view to modernising the mine Husnicioara (Mehedinti) which ensures the coal for the DrobetaTurnu Severin owned by RAAN. “ A study made this summer showed that there is enough material for a production of two million tons for a period of 30 years” Traicu said.
Over half of the thermal power stations in Romania have been in function for over thirty years, with old technologies and very low yields.
