The industry will pay fewer green certificates starting with 1 December
The measure according to which the energy consumers will be exempted from the payment of a part of the green certificates will be applied starting with 1 December, stated the minister of economy Constantin Nita in a business forum.
‘We discussed in Brussels that the price of energy is too high, and if it doesn’t go down, the products from the EU will not be competitive against the ones from the US or China. Starting with 1 December, the industry which consumes energy will benefit from these advantages’ Nita explained.
He added that this will be reflected in the growth of competitiveness of the Romanian and European products.
The European commission said that the Romanian schedule to reduce green certificates namely the diminution of contributions of certain energy intensive consumers to the funding of energy from renewable sources, follow the norms of the EU regarding state aids.
According to the minister of economy Constantin Nita, Romania is the first member state of the EU for which the European Commission adopted the decision to authorise the state aid schedule without starting any investigation.
‘Romania is the first member state of the EU for which, on the basis of directives regarding state aid for the protection of the environment and energy for the period 2014 – 2020 published in April 2014, the European Commission adopted the decision to authorise the state aid schedule without starting any investigation. The approval of the schedule initiated by the ministry of economy represents a confirmation of the necessity to support the European industry with a view to keeping the competitiveness of the big industrial consumers. The state aid support schedule is valid 10 years, to be applied on 1 December 2014 until 31 December 2024’ stated last week Constantin Nita in a press release.
