The government is reassuring there are no problems with fuel stocks

The spokesperson of the government, Dan Carbunaru said, on Wednesday that ‘there are no problems with fuel stocks and premier Nicolae Ciuca required checks on the filling stations, after, in several areas of the country, there were long lines at the stations, the Romanians wanting to buy petrol, due to the worries concerning the increase of the fuel price. A short time after, minister of energy, Virgil Popescu said that Romania has no problem with fuel supply in filling stations. ‘ I want to tell the Romanians they do not need to panic and stay in lines’ he said.

‘There are no real reasons for accelerated increase of price in Romania. Our country has sufficient fuel stocks. The premier Nicolae Ciuca required ample checks in filling stations. The Romanian government will not allow any derailment, any attempt of speculation’ Dan Carbunaru said in his message to the media.

The minister of energy, Virgil Popescu wrote, on Facebook, that ‘ Romania has no problem with fuel supply in the filling stations’. ‘We had meetings with the representatives Rompetrol and OMVPetrom and we received ensurance that there is sufficient stock of fuel and they will ensure delivery to the clients. At the same time, I want to tell the Romanians they do not need to panic and stay in lines. We have sufficient stock’ Popescu said.

There were lines of cars in Timisoara and the neighbouring localities and the roads were blocked as the drivers were scared by the increase in fuel prices.

On Wednesday, the prices presented were 7.48 lei/l of fuel, and the people say that on Thursday the price could get to 10 lei/liter or even more.
