PM Ciuca: We have as first objective the opening of the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria

Premier Nicolae Ciuca stated on Sunday, at Digi 24 that Romania does not have any risk to remain without gas and that we have as first objective to open the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria, so that starting with the autumn we can use American liquified gas. About the offshore law, the head of the executive said that the leaders of the coalition committed to bring it into the parliament.

 

 ‘We have no risk to be left without gas. Romania imports approximately 20% of the necessary, we had meetings and discussions with the premiers of the countries in the region, that of Greece, that of Bulgaria, we had phone conversations. (…) We are connected and our first objective is to open the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria, it will happen in June’ the premier said, in autumn, or at the end of the year we will have gas injected through this interconnector and we will use liquefied gas through the terminal in Alexandroupoli’.

 

Asked if Romania manages to use American liquified gas, the premier said :’ of course, yes, in the autumn, or at most at the end of the year’.

 

About the moment when Romania can get gas from the Black Sea, the premier reminded that the commitment of the leaders of the coalition had is that, during the period to come, the offshore law gets into the parliament, and said that ‘ it is not more than one month, maximum two’.

 

The head of the government confirmed that, the discussion at this moment concerning the offshore law is 60% of the revenue for the Romanian state and 40% for the other parties: ‘ it is win-win (…) The figures are the ones you mentioned ‘ he said.

 

‘Those who support and present the draft must be satisfied, I don’t know much about energy and I can’t say if I need to be satisfied. There is need for a law which could ensure the exploitation of gas and Romania be the beneficiary of this draft’ the premier said.
