The energy strategy of Romania will have to be built around the concept of energy security, stated on Friday in Petrosani the minister of energy Andrei Gerea at the end of a meeting with the leadership of Complex Energetic Hunedoara (CEH) and the social partners. ‘The energy strategy of Romania has to be built around the concept of energy security. The international context imposes this thing and for us it is vital that Romania be ensured (…) from the point of view of energy resources, as well as from the perspective of production capacities. An important element in the energy strategy is the energy efficiency. Our efforts will be directed to this concept, including in CEH” the minister of energy said.
He said that the fact that Romania is not independent from the point of view of natural gas supply, adding that he wished an increase in the storage capacities for this. According to him, our country cannot afford to give up the electricity production based on coal, context when the appreciated that there should be ensured an energy mix which could offer Romania the necessary comfort from the point of view of energy production.
As regards the CEH the minister of energy stated that all efforts will be made to save it so that mining in the Jiu Valley continues.
‘I came to the Jiu Valley to give a sign that the situation in CEH is important,we do our best and will make all efforts to this purpose, to save CEH, all our knowledge, all the links that we have at the level of the ministry and the government will be used.(…)Together with the people here we are confident that we will succeed to find the best solutions so that mining in the Jiu Valley and the electricity production have a future here’ Gerea said.
He showed that in the discussions with the CEH there were topics connected to the first draft of the restructuring programme of the complex, as well as about the discussions they had with the representatives IMF, the European Commission and the World Bank.
In the context,the minister said that for the drawing of the restructuring plan for CEH a team coming from the EC will contribute, so that ‘ the plan is completely transparent and convincing’. ‘A very good element is that they, at the level of the EC accepted that the energy security must be priority’ Andrei Gerea said.
