Romania, at the top of the most polluted European countries, for what it produces (EEM report)
Romania occupies the second place in the top of European countries which pollute the most by report to what it produces, after Bulgaria and followed by Estonia and Poland says a report made up by the European Environment Agency (EEM)recently published.
According to the document, 50% of the damaging impact of the pollution of the air represents 1% of the industrial producers in Europe, in this case the damage being 165 billion euro, annually. The most damanging industry is that of energy, being responsible for 67% of the total of the damage.
On the other hand, the most pollutant countries of Europe, from the point of view of the damage are : Germany, Poland, the UK, France and Italy. If the damage is reported at what it produces, at the top of the most damaging states are: Bulgaria, Romania,Estonia and Poland.
The statistics of the EU show that approximately 430,000 premature deaths were attributed to the suspension particles (PM10). At the same time, exposure to noise was estimated to provoke death of 10,000 people due to heart diseases and cerebral strokes every year.
According to the EEM report, Europe is not within limits as regards the stoppage of biodiversity loss, as there are a series of habitats for animals and plants which disappear. A high proportion of the protected species (60%) and of the types (77%) are considered to be unfavourable for conservation.
In the case of Romania, although there are over 900 protected national areas and more than 500 Natura 2000 sites, a quarter of the animal species (25%) are considered threatened, the rest being under pressure due to the corresponding habitatats outside the protected areas.
As regards gas emissions with greenhouse effect, the data show that, in Romania those of sulphur dioxide dropped by 48.8% between 2005 and 2011. Even so, our country is affected by the climatic changes, the annua average of temperatures increasing by0.5degress Celsius, between 1988 – 2010.
The report ‘ European environment – state and perspectives; launched last week buy EEM shows that the Europeans have cleaner waters, generate less garbage at the dumping sites, recycle more and the environment policies put into practice generate work places and economic growth.
The EEM report was made within a joint initiative where they collaborated with the European Network for the information and environment observation (Eionet) as well as he services of the European Commission.
