Rovana Plumb: Investments in renewable energy must continue in Romania
The investments in renewable energy must continue in Romania, but they should take into account both the economic competitiveness and also an affordable cost for consumers, Environment Minister and Climate Changes Rovana Plumb told a Tuesday's specialist conference.
'As to the energy obtained from renewable resources, unveiled at the same time with the Green Paper was also the situation of member states. Currently, Romania has a mix of renewable energy from the total energy of 23.6 per cent, and the target is 24 per cent. My opinion is that we must continue the investments in renewable energy, but we must consider both the economic competitiveness and the cost paid by citizens,' said the environment minister.
Minister Plumb added that, as of April 15, on the ministry's website there would be a discussion forum with the players on the relevant market in view of meeting the objectives for 2030.
'The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is the competent authority for the implementation of the EU scheme of certificates for greenhouse gas missions. The trading scheme for the period 2013-2020 requires legislative changes. Now, we have under parliamentary debate two amendments on the allocation of those certificates. The transition to a green economy means finding the best formulas. We need your [producers'] help for the necessary inputs to find the best development solutions. On April 15 we will launch on the ministry's website a discussion forum, so that we will be able to receive also your proposals to meet the objectives for 2030,' Rovana Plumb informed.
According to official data, the green energy in Romania has drawn, in the past three years, investments of over 3 billion euros, and the support scheme for investors, which provides for granting green certificates with a value between 27 and 55 euros, is one of the most advantageous in the European Union.
The Parliament Palace is hosting on Tuesday the Green Forum conference, with the theme 'Green Energy - Solution or Problem.' The main topics tacked refer to the trends in the green energy sector in 2013 and the impact of the growth of renewable energy production on the modernization of the grid's infrastructure.
