Minister-delegate for Energy, Hungarian counterpart discuss cooperation, energy markets interconnection

Minister-delegate for Energy Constantin Nita discussed with Hungarian counterpart Pal Kovacs energy projects of common interest such as the Tarnita-Lapustesti hydroelectric power station and the interconnection of the countries' gas and electricity grids, as well as the AGRI and Nabucco strategic energy security projects, a release of the Ministry of Economy informs on Friday.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment towards the involvement in the development of the Nabucco and AGRI projects, mentioning the importance of regional interconnections. The Tarnita-Lapustesti power plant was one of the points of interest on the agenda of talks, due to its strategic importance in the medium and long term. Energy cooperation opportunities were also discussed with focus on developing a regional energy market by interconnecting the Romanian electricity market with the Hungarian, Slovak and Czech peer markets, and on privatization deals in the Romanian energy sector.

The meeting with Minister of State for Climate Change and Energy Pal Kovacs focused on strengthening the relationship of the two countries with a view to developing a regional power pole. Minister Pal Kovacs presented the Hungarian Government's priorities in the energy sector, mentioning the importance of cooperation among the states in the region.

'Strengthening relations between Romania and Hungary, especially in the energy sector, will contribute to the development of both countries, enabling us to capitalize on opportunities in this field. There are projects of common interest of regional and local strategic importance and we intend to maintain a dynamic cooperation so that we achieve our goals related to energy independence and develop a reference market in this part of Europe, in terms of electricity sale and buy. For further talks on Romania-Hungary cooperation, I invited my counterpart to visit Bucharest,' said Constantin Nita.

The agenda of the visit also included meetings with representatives of major companies from Hungary - MVM Group and MOL Group.

Constantin Nita was on an official visit to the Republic of Hungary, March 27 - 29 at the invitation of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Energy, Pal Kovacs. The Romanian delegation included Hidroelectrica receiver Remus Borza, Transgaz general manager Ioan Rusu, and head of the Cooperation Strategy Office Mirela Sandulescu.
