Romania's energy strategy to be completed by year-end
Romania's energy strategy could be completed by the end of the year, with the first working meeting on this issue to take place on June 10, Romanian Minister-delegate for Energy Constantin Nita on Thursday told the Energy Business Summit, a conference sponsored by the Economy Ministry.
'We hope, by autumn, we'll draw up a new strategy of the energy sector of Romania for the years 2030-2035. To this end, we try to set up a group for the Energy Strategy of Romania at the economy ministry, with the first meeting on this issue to take place on June 10. We'll place emphasis on the vision, in this new strategy and we'll try to have a new approach from the one used to work out the old strategy, which only provided the details of the energy resources Romania has available', Nita explained.
The minister announced that the nuclear power could account for 10-12 percent of the overall Romanian installed power in the new strategy.
'If we succeed to commission reactors 3 and 4 of Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, then we'll get another 2,400 megawatt, which would mean a share of the nuclear power at some 10-12 percent of the overall installed power in Romania', Nita said.
According to a scenario drawn up by the European Union for 2030, the energy will come from renewable sources at 18 percent, coal at 12 percent, oil at 33 percent, gas at 22 percent and nuclear power at 14 percent.
