PRIMARY ENERGY RESOURCES DECREASED BY 0.3% IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2016

- In Q I 2016, as compared to Q I 2015, primary energy resources decreased by 0.3%, while those of electricity increased by 2.1%.



Final electricity consumption in Romania stood at 14.336 billion KWh in the first quarter of 2016, up 8.5 percent from Q1, 2105, according to provisional data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

The use of electricity for public lighting was up 1.8 percent, while household consumption was up 2.4 percent. 

Romania's total electricity output stood at 17.093 billion KWh, up 0.3 percent from the similar quarter of the year before, 7.07 billion KWh of which were generated in power and heat stations (+0.7 percent); 4.59 billion KWh in hydropower stations (-7.1 percent), and 3.04 billion KWh in nuclear power plants (+1.4 percent). 

The Q1, 2016 output of the wind power stations closed to 2.07 billion KWh (+13.6 percent), while the Q1, 2016 output of sun power generated by photovoltaic installations stood at 324.2 million KWh (+22.5 percent). 

Romania's Q1, 2016 electricity imports totalled 1.203 billion KWh, up 38.8 percent from Q1, 2015, while electricity exports in the same period stood at 2.06 billion KWh, down 20.6 percent. 

The country's total electricity resources stood at 18.297 billion KWh, up 2.1 percent form the first three months of 2015. 

On the other hand, primary energy resources in Q1, 2016 declined 0.3 percent to 8.332 million toe. Domestic output got to 5.51 million toe, down two times from Q1, 2015, while imports surged 81.5 percent to 2.82 million toe.
