PM Ponta: Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline must be continued to Chisinau
Prime Minister Victor Ponta has stated his belief, on Wednesday, that the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline must be continued to Chisinau.
"The most important project for Moldova. A challenge for Iurie Leanca and myself! It must be continued to Chisinau!", said Prime Minister Ponta in a tweet on his personal account.
Gas deliveries from Romania to the Republic of Moldova through the Iasi - Ungheni pipeline will begin on Wednesday, said on Tuesday the Moldovan Prime Minister, Chiril Gaburici.
"The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline will become operational on Wednesday; we are already in talks for the Ungheni - Chisinau pipeline, which will give us the possibility to cover the entire country with gas delivered from Romania and create a loyal competition in the energy market of the Republic of Moldova", said Chiril Gaburici during a joint press conference held together with US Deputy Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, according to Moldovan news portal Unimedia.
The Iasi-Ungheni pipeline was inaugurated on August 27, 2014, on the Moldovan Independence Day, a year after the launch of its construction, Radio Chisinau mentions. The contract for gas deliveries from Romania, through the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline, was signed on December 22, 2014 by the authorities in Chisinau and Bucharest.
