Nabucco starts the design phase for the pipeline Nabucco West
Nabucco Gas Pipeline International signed a contract with Saipem for services of design ( Front End Engineering and Design – FEED) for the project Nabucco West. Saipem was selected as provider for these services through competitive bid, started in September 2012.
The contract includes all FEED activities for the pipe system with 48 inch diametre and a total length of 1,326 km. Among these there is the strategic analysis of the data with a view to evaluating the risk and allocating the adequate resources for the whole pipeline, to ensure the continuity of the development with success of the project.
The redesign for Nabucco West takes place after the project was selected in June last year by the Shah Deniz consortium with the route Central-European for delivery. These works will complete the existing design for the Nabucco in the initial format, with 56 inch diametre and a length of 3,900 km.
In January 2013, the Nabucco shareholders signed a cooperation agreement as well as an agreement for options of subscription and financing, with the shareholders of the gas field Shah Deniz.
The Nabucco West will transport gas of Caspian origin from the Turkish-Bulgarian border through Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary to the Central/European gas terminal in Baumgarten. As a central component of the South corridor of gas Nabucco West is in the ideal position for the diversification of the supply sources for gas of over 500 million potential users in countries with developing economies in Southern/Eastern Europe as well as for Western Europe.
