Jan - April gas imports drop 6.1 pct

Romania's gas imports in the first four months of 2022 stood at 802,800 tons of oil equivalent (toe), by 5.1 pct (51,900 toe) less YoY, show figures centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The domestic gas production over the reporting period amounted to 2.376 million toe, 6.1 percent (153,700 toe) less than in the year-ago period.

According to estimates by the National Strategy and Forecast Commission, Romania's natural gas production this year will amount to 7.45 million toe and imports are seen at 2.33 million toe, up 1.9 percent and 19.6 percent down from 2021, respectively.

According to the "2019 - 2030 Energy Strategy With Outlook to 2050" published on the website of the Energy Ministry, Romania's natural gas production will peak at 132 TWh in 2025 due to the Black Sea production, and will subsequently decrease to 96 TWh in 2030 and 65 TWh in 2050.

The final natural gas consumption will keep constant between 2030 and 2050 at 68 TWh, with demand seen at an estimated high around 73 TWh, while the low is set to progressively decline from 63 TWh in 2030 to 47 TWh in 2050.
