Gold ore tender called by Remin fails over lack of bidders

A second attempt to put to sale gold ores with high arsenic concentration by public tender called by Remin National Mining Company based in Baia Mare (northern Romania) has failed, as no Romanian or foreign company showed interest in purchasing the specification.

Seven firms from Romania and from outside the country purchased the specification at the first tender called on Nov. 14, but none of them voiced interest in putting a bid.

Remin Manager Ovidiu Galca told Agerpres on Tuesday that a tender to sell the gold ores would be resumed in two weeks.

'The procedure repeats according to the laws, with another tender to be organised in two weeks, maybe it has more chances', Galca said.

Remin, currently undergoing insolvency, is putting to sale more than 500,000 tons of gold concentrate with high arsenic content from the ore sludge belonging to former Suior mine in the Gutai Mountains (northern Romania).

According to the specification, the seller asks 105 dollars for a metric ton of dry ore. The company has set very tight conditions to the potential buyer, in line with the Romanian laws.

Attending the first tender were firms from Romania, China, Switzerland and Britain.
