ForMin Diaconescu: We endorse idea of cohesion in EU approach to energy security
Romania endorses the idea of the European Union's cohesion regarding the energy security in the Black Sea area, Romania's Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu said on Thursday. 'We continue endorsing the idea of cohesion in the EU approach to the energy security. In the respect, Romania hopes to the European leader's political statements of solidarity regarding the energy safety. At the time, several exploitation projects are in progress, same as projects on energy transportation in and through the Black Sea. All such projects involve the participation of several EU countries. From this perspective, we want to make an assessment, together, within the EU, and show solidarity in our approach, because they are projects of major economic and strategic importance both in the Black Sea area and in Europe, as a whole,' FinMin Diaconescu said in the end of his meeting with the EU Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki.
Romania's Foreign Minister said that the dialogue with the EU Commissioner was very good and gave them the opportunity to review aspects that are priorities to Romania both in terms of the EU agenda and the elements related to the EU commitment to the Black Sea area. According to ForMin Diaconescu, the talks also approached issues such as the multi-annual financial framework over 2014-2020, and the way the EU partnerships with the eastern areas can be funded.
'We want the EU to get more involved, and we greet the fact that the eastern partnership with six neighboring countries represents an important political moment and which we have hailed since its very beginning. The as practical as possible projects on the environment, the fishery rules and standards and the energy exploitations in the Black Sea may be of interest to the European Union, and it can be constructively involved in them,' Romania's top diplomat stressed.
He assured the EU Commissioner that Bucharest supports both politically and technically the enactment of the projects that EU plans to organize. EU Commissioner Maria Damanaki, in her turn, pointed out that a joint fishery strategy is important. It is very important we should have a common fishery strategy, which means we need to take initiatives for issues such as the jobs in the Black Sea area, the maritime tourism, energy, fishing and the cooperation. I hope the Romanian Government supports me in all these goals, said Damanaki.
