Cupru Min privatization - a successful one, says Government spokesman
Lately, a whole series of unfounded accusations appeared related to privatization of Cupru Min, a privatization which - it is worth mentioning - was a successful one, the spokesman of the Government, Dan Suciu, told AGERPRES in an interview given on Monday. Dan Suciu further said that there are a lot o arguments supporting his statement. According to him, this is the third attempt to privative Cupru Min, the first ones being in 2008, two failed privatizations, at the end of Tariceanu Government term.
Dan Suciu further said that 'the open outcry auction method was recommended by the European Commission, because this procedure of privatization is transparent, indiscriminate and unconditional. The offering price is established based on the evaluation report and then, via the outcry auction, the respective price could be reached. In 2008, the assessment was 28 million euros. Now, the privatization procedure started at 57 million euros and reached over 200 million euros. ' Finally, Dan Suciu referred to accusations related to the sale of resources.
'Not by a long shot. At this point, I would say that the value of the company and all of this discussion regarding the value of the deposit and the low comparatively price is totally out of proportion because the assessment did not take into account the deposit value. What was valued for the starting price of 57 million euros took into account just the value of assets and performance of that company, not the value of the deposit. This is a company with exploiting rights, based on the licence, of this copper ore deposit until 2019. Therefore, the deposit was not privatized! These are abusive interpretations. There is a license for the deposit until 2019. If, after that, the company is able to renew the license, obviously it can continue. The deposit remains here, nobody leaves with this deposit from the country. All these things show that the procedure was extremely transparent and the price is extremely honorable and performing', the Government spokesman also said in his interview.
