Energy production down, population consumption up by 22.5 pct in first 11 months of 2019

  • During 1.I – 30.XI.2019, primary energy resources increased by 2.2%, while those of electricity decreased by 4.3% as compared to the same period of previous year.

Energy production dropped in first 11 months of this year by 7.9 pct, a significant decline being noted also in exports of electric energy, by 39.5 pct, while the population's consumption grew by 22.5 pct, according to data of the National Institute for Statistics published on Tuesday.

In the January - November 2019 period, the internal energy production totaled 18.28 million tons oil equivalent (toe), a drop by 752,000 toe over the same period of the previous year, while imports stood at 13.841 million toe.

Electrical energy resources were of 58.641 kWh, a drop of 2.623 billion kWh as compared to the similar period of 2018.

The production in power plants was of 21.508 billion kWh, decreasing by 2.418 billion kWh (-10.1 pct). Production in hydro power plants was of 14.74 billion kWh, decreasing by 2.27 billion kWh (-13.4 pct), while that in nuclear electric plants was of 10.227 billion kWh, down by 123.4 million kWh (-1.2 pct). Production in wind power was of 6.06 billion kWh, recording an increase of 129.1 million kWh over the same period of last year, and solar energy accounted for 1.67 billion kWh, an increase of 41.4 million kWh over the corresponding period of 2018.

In the first 11 months of the year, the main primary energy resources totaled 32.176 million toe, an increase of 677,100 toe over the similar period of the previous year. Primary energy resources grew by 2.2 pct, and electrical energy resources dropped by 4.3 pct over the same period of the preceding year, the INS mentions.

The final energy consumption in this period was of 50.583 billion kWh, down by 0.6 pct over the corresponding period of the year 2018. Public lighting increased by 11.8 pct, and the population consumption grew by 22.5 pct.

Electrical energy exports saw 3.112 billion kWh, dropping by 2.035 billion kWh (-39.5 pct).

The technological own consumption of networks and power stations was of 4.94 billion kWh, dropping by 265.4 million kWh.
