Electricity stock exchange price goes up by 70% in August

The average price of electricity in the spot market of OPCOM exchange reached 281 lei/MWh on Tuesday, on the rise by 70% against the quotation valid on August 1 - 166 lei/MWh, according to data posted on the website.

The average price for top consumption hours (9:00-22:00) went up by 80% since the beginning of the month, from 184 lei to 329 lei.

The price has been growing continuously in August, on the background of the low renewable source energy production, except for hydro energy, and because of growing consumption.

Energy has also been more expensive in countries with which Romania is coupled at spot market level. On Tuesday, the price was the lowest in Romania - 60.79 euro/MWh, while it was 65.73 euro in Hungary and 65.69 euro in Slovakia and Czech Republic.
