Electricity bill, 3.5pct less starting January 1

Starting January 1, 2016 households will pay 3.5pct less for electricity, president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) Niculae Havrilet announced on December 16.

"We have decided on a 3.5pct reduction from January 1 for the final invoice. Distribution prices dropped by 12pct on average, instead the share of green certificates increased from 35 lei to 43 lei," Havrilet stated.

The share of green certificates in the invoice received by households increased after several companies that use large shares of energy were exempted from paying a share of the green certificates.

"Had the share of certificates not been increased, the final invoice would have been reduced by 5.5pct, Havrilet added.

At beginning December, the Ministry of Economy published the list of the 37 companies exempted from paying a share of the green certificates. The list includes Alro Slatina, Arcelor Mittal Galati, Lafarge, Carpat Cement, Saint-Gobain, Azomures.

On Tuesday, Marius Vladu, head of ANRE's Communication, Cooperation and Relations with the Parliament Department told Agerpres that distribution prices for electricity will decrease by 12pct on average starting January 1, 2016, which will translate into a 4-5pct decrease in the cost of the final invoice.
