Commissionaire Corina Cretu reacts in connection to the ecological landfill in Suceava
The European commissionaire for Regional Policy Corina Cretu expresses her concern with regards to the possibility of the distruction of the alpine landscape by the creation of waste landfill in the Suceava county.
The message was sent through an open letter addressed to the Romanian minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Gratiela Gavrilescu and the minister of European Funds Marius Nica.
‘The scenary of the Carpathians is one of the biggest richness of Romania and Europe and I want to make sure that the European funds are not used to endanger this resource’ Corina Cretu said in her message, thus joining the citizens and the mass media in Romania which drew the attention to the building of an ecological waste landfill in the Suceava county, as part of a project of waste management.
‘I see that the purpose of this project is to develop a solid system of integrated waste management for the whole county in accordance with the European legislation and the objectives established for Romania in the Accession Treaty, in the domain of waste management’ states the European commissionaire for Regional policy.
All projects must observe the environment legislation as regards the evaluation of the possible effects on the environment, draws the attention Corina Cretu adding that ‘this measn that all public and environment authorities at local and national level must be consulted to obtain the authorisationsand the necessary agreements and, at the same time, public consultations of the population must be organised in the first stages of development of the project’.
