ANRE fines Petrom, Transgaz, E.ON, Engie for imbalances in the gas market; companies will challenge the fine

The National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) has fined Transgaz, E.ON, Engie and OMV Petrom for imbalances in the national gas transmission system last week, HotNews.ro informs, quoting Agerpres, romaniajournal.ro reads.

At the same time, ANRE also carried out a control on Monday at natural gas producer and supplier Romgaz.

According to market information, the ANRE investigation will be extended in the next period to other companies on the gas market.

Romania imported last week up to one-third of its daily gas consumption in order to get through the frosty period, which is the largest daily gas import over the last five years, according to sources in the energy sector.

The companies involved argue that the reasons for this fine are incorrect.

E.ON notes that has made in time its gas reserves necessary to cover the customers’ consumption during the cold season, above the levels set out in the legal regulations in force.

Also, Engie representatives say they will challenge the fine in Court, as the company has taken all the measures to ensure gas supply. They explained that these imminent deficits or surplus fluctuations are subject to specific regulations of a trade nature.

The amount of the fines applied is not specified.
