The Transport Ministry will green-light the Transport Masterplan in the coming period, which provides for upgrading projects worth 1.12 billion euros, Transport Minister Ramona Manescu told a Tuesday's specialist conference.
'The money for the projects worth 1.12 billion euros will come from European funds and will be allocated particularly for upgrading Henri Coanda Airport and the airports in Cluj, Constanta and Baia Mare. There will also be built intermodal capabilities at Henri Coanda and Iasi Airports, but also a cargo terminal in Cluj,' said the transport minister.
According to the quoted source, the ministry's priority for the next period is to improve air traffic on domestic routes, with several airports in the country having already benefited from upgrading works funded from EU funds.
'The runway of Stefan cel Mare Airport in Suceava has seen upgrading works worth 167 million lei, while Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport in Constanta has been rehabilitated with 170 million lei. As to the increase in air traffic on domestic routes, we will focus mainly on increasing the number of flights on the current destinations, such as the Bucharest -Targu Mures route, which until recently benefited from three flights per week, and now it has five weekly flights,' said Ramona Manescu.
She also stated that at this time there is no redundancy plan at some railway companies or Tarom airline.
Attending the conference were also pilots and representatives of Bucharest Airports National Company, ROMATSA, Romania's Air Club, the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority, Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association of Romania and of ROMAERO.
