Trade: Study: Seven out of ten Romanians use chicken meat for weekly meals
Chicken meet is preferred by Romanians, seven out of ten using it to prepare meals several times a week. 95% of people who cook at least weekly use this meat at according to a study made by Transavia, a company processing chicken meat.
Hypermarkets and supermarkets are places where Romanians choose to buy chicken meat (77%), while specialized stores (49%) and usual food shops (46%) are preferred by a smaller number of people.
According to the study, 94% of Romanians prefer to buy fresh, refrigerated meat, to the detriment of the frozen one which only 27% of people chose, in particular young people aged between 18 and 25.
Motivating the frequent use of chicken meat, Romanians say it is easy to cook (71%), tastes good (62%) and is white meat, with few calories (57%). Most Romanians associate this type of food with low calories, small fat content and healthy life. Occasional consumers see chicken meat as being rich in vitamins, the study shows.
The types of chicken meat used most often in the Romanians’ kitchens are chicken breast (82%), superior chicken legs (77%) and inferior chicken legs (72%), followed by liver, wings and gizzards. Respondents in the study prefer to bake (81%) chicken meat, use it to cook various meals (75%) or grill it (68%).
The study made by Transavia, a Romanian company in the chicken meat industry, was completed in partnership with the market research company iSense Solutions on a sample of 520 men and women aged over 18, from the urban area who use to cook at least once a week.
