Trade: Searches for online deliveries grew by 58% in Romania, last year
Searches for online deliveries made by Romanians grew in 2020 by 58% against the previous year, with peaks of 200% in certain periods of time, such as April, according to an analysis presented by Google Romania representatives, on Thursday at an online conference.
According to company data, terms with the greatest advance, in the delivery category were: delivery, home food delivery or online purchases delivered at home.
Google data show that in 2020 searches for online deliveries made by Romanians grew by 58% against the previous year, with peaks of 200% in April. The top three of that category include: KFC delivery, Anna delivery and Mc delivery.
Searches for office items doubled last year and the trend will continue in 2021. At the beginning of the on-going year, there was a 125% increase of the segment in January, reported to the reference period. In this segment, Romanians were interested in: office chairs, desks, children's desks, laptops, eMag laptop, Altex laptop and gaming laptop.
Romanians wanted to spend more time in the open, thus generating a 40% increase for camping and gardening searches, according to the report released by Google.
In the Home and Garden category there was a 39% increase of Google searches in 2020, followed by those for Toys and Games (+32%), Household appliances (28%), Food and beverages (27%), Hobbies and spare time (25%), Clothes and footwear (20%), Books and magazines (16%), Beauty and personal care (15%) and Jewelry (12%).
In this context, the interest of Google searches reflected in online sales.
Thus, according to Euromonitor data, online trade in Romania went up by 32% in 2020, compared to the previous year, and the most rapid advance was recorded in spring, when circulation restrictions were imposed, when online retail grew by 80% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Throughout 2020, online trade in Romania reached 10% of the whole retail volume, compared to 7% in 2019, when the absolute peak was 16% in November, when Black Friday takes place, the report shows.
