Trade: Romania occupies the last place in the EU according to the percentage of the internet users who buy online
Romania is situated the last in the EU according to the percentage of the internet users who buy online goods and services, with only 11% while at European level the average is higher, 59% according to the data published by Eurostat.
Romania, Bulgaria ( by 17% of the internet users), Estonia and Italy ( both 29%) occupies the last places among the 28 member states of the EU. The highest percentage of online buyers are recorded in the UK (82%), Denmark and Sweden ( both 79%), Germany (77%), Luxemburg ( 73%) and Finland (72%).Croatia, state which accessed the EU this year records a rate of 36%.
The orders for clothes and sporting products, as well as the bookings for travel and holidays are the most frequent purchases online. Thus, a third of the internet users in the EU had such purchases, while a quarter stated they bought books, magazines and educational materials. Almost 10% of the Europeans ordered food online.
Romania records the highest percentage at online purchases of clothes and sporting articles, followed by booking for travel and holidays and book acquisition, magazines and educational material. The orders for food is situated the last among internet users in Romania.
According to data published previously by Eurostat, the access to the internet among households in Romania was 54% last year, while the EU average is 76%.
