Trade : Romania imported five times more cheese than it exported in lat 8 months
Romania imported 23,305 tons of cheese in the first 8 months of the year, five times more than it exported in the same period of 2011, according to data supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). Cheese exports amounted to 4,327 tons in the first 8 months, on the rise 2.2 times compared to the same period of 2011, when exports amounted to 1,933 tons. Incomes from cheese exports amounted to 12,176 million euro in the first 8 months, 61% more than 7.54 million euro the previous months.
According to MADR data, the value of cheese imports reached about 63 million euro, over January-August 2012, while in the same period of 2011 it totaled 64.31 million euro, for 21,869 tons of cheese brought foreign markets.Both exports and imports were made to EU and extra EU countries.In the first 9 months of 2012 the local cheese production, including cheese obtained exclusively from milk cow grew by 7.3% (3511 tons), compared to the same period of 2011, totaling 51,322 tons, according to INS data.
