Trade : Online retail trade will grow by 30% to 600 billion euro this year

The retail market will reach 600 million euro in 2012, on the rise by 33% compared to 2011 when it was 450 million euro, Raluca Georgescu, general manager of Allegro Group Romania declared for Wall-Street.ro. Most transactions are for the purchase of electronic and IT products, clothes and cosmetics. The figures do not include payment for utilities and services. The value of 600 million euro for 2012 and 450 million for last year also include payment by credit cards.

 

Last year about 10% of payments were made by card, according to Allegro estimates. According to Romcard processor, online payments of 160 million euro were made last year by card (on the rise by 24% compared to 2010) but the amount also includes services and utility payments.The most valuable transactions are in the area of tourism, where the average is about 165 euro, in the software field where Romanians pay about 126 euro on the average and IT&C with an average of 110 euro.

 

Until now only a million Romanians have bought online, which means about 12.5% of the 8.5 million Romanian Internet users.About 37% of people who buy online are aged between 18 and 24 and there is an equal number of buyers according to gender.”A lot is bought from abroad, but more Romanian players have appeared. Local fashion retailers have appeared. Services offered by online shops are also in a beginner stage. Market evolutions in future years depend on the players and on how creative their solutions will be,” Georgescu said.
